Happy New Year Hyun Woo! It was awesome to see you in Seoul and hopefully again soon. I keep delaying writing you but anyway what I wanted to say for months is that your novel is devastatingly good, almost too good, and if I don't see some sort of enormous career breakout with the literary establishment either welcoming you with open arms or, if necessary, ceding to reality, and you becoming a famous author I'll be shocked. Enjoyed your Manchuria thoughts as well, of course
So glad it resonated. I wondered if it was too dark, but I felt in the end it balanced out. It is a kind of joy and magic that you could read it in Pasadena, others could read it in China or the Mideast, all at the same time, under the same moon, but in different places living different lives, We always know this but hearing you mention drinking tea just made it seem super real.
