Thank you for these wonderful thoughts many of which I resonate with. Also a big one for me this year has been finding a physical community. Going to writing clubs, running groups and feeling a part of something. This has been equal parts scary and fulfilling. Thank you looking forward to our 2025 ✨
Thank you Franco that means a lot 🥲 I am determined to treasure his memory and line adventurously and with kindness. I hope you have a wonderful new year ✨
“My girlfriend is from China and when we started dating she told me that I should stop saying thank you when she did small favors for me, because it implied distance. If we were close, she said, I would not need to thank her, since I wouldn't be surprised that she did nice things for me. But I was raised the opposite way. My parents often thank each other, and taught me to do so too. In my mind, those I care for deserved extra thanks. What I love about this story is that we both had the same goal—expressing appreciation and closeness—but our cultural backgrounds led us to seek the same goal the exact opposite way. Remember this the next time someone you care about acts in a surprising way.”
How cute!! My partner is also from a different culture than me and it’s always fun and eye-opening to see how we translate our shared values in different ways ☺️
Also happy to see that cheesecake is still on your mind 🤣
Thank you Belinda! It’s so nice to run into you often on notes and I’m excited to get to know you and your work more in the coming year. It seems like you have a fascinating life story!
I got a lot from this. Especially #12 and #14. Thank you for writing it, and thank you for publishing on Substack. Also, Rebecca’s Song is beautiful—like an optimistic Bright Eyes.
Thank you Hamish! It means more than you know to hear that, both for the post and the song. I really appreciate that, and all you’ve done to make this happen ✨ here’s to (even more) Substacking in 2025.
…btw when I lived in Shanghai years ago and was writing shitty songs on my cheap guitar I was so into bright eyes, it means a lot you made the comparison
Thank you so much Ethan, it’s been great to meet you this year, here’s to another great year in 2025 ✨ and congrats again on your poetry collections release!

Thank you Caroline! I am destined to try that one day— you can’t learn something is devastatingly ambrosian and forget it.
shared values expressed different ways is a total vibe, even though it sometimes leads to misunderstandings 😂
